Kaaraikudi Chettinad Restaurant

This is a place where you can have authentic South Indian dishes. This is located in main road and easy to locate . They have ample parking space. At the entrance they have placed the board stating the day special dish. The seating arrangement is good and the ambiance is very vibrant . The wall painting gives a authentic feel of Chettinadu theme.
The service is fast and well trained staff are quick to take order and serve the same. Served non veg soup as complimentary.
I have ordered the Biryani Virunthu which gives biryani of different type be it mutton , chicken , prawn and egg. The chicken 65 serves as starter with curd and sweet dish. The menu has good spread and prices are not very high.

Good place to have authentic South Indian dishes

Went for dinner during our short business trip to Chennai. The place is quite popular among locals. But to me it missed the mark by a few points - only because of food quality. Service is fast, and the food arrive in minutes. The restaurant is clean and follows the Chettinad theme throughout. Flutist Vijay was playing live during dinner. It truly added a beautiful touch to our evening. They ask you about your food preference (veg/non-veg) upon arrival, since they serve a complimentary soup. We were served mutton soup. We further ordered a Kozhi Keema Appam - the cook on the appam was great, but the chicken keema was a bit chewy. If they use a mix of thigh and breast pieces, instead of only breast, the texture can improve. Valaipoo Vadai was a disappointment since valaipoo was hardly present in the preparation. Mutton biryani was not available, nor was kola urundai. We took chicken biryani instead. It was flavourful Chennai style biryani that my husband enjoyed. I was expecting something more, but it's a personal preference. The restaurant has dedicated parking and is ample.

Enjoyed the ambiance and food equally. Tasty authentic food with great service.
Mr.Arun was very considerate and helpful. Would totally recommend the restaurant for some guaranteed good food and ambience.

Tasty idippayam with chicken Chettinad gravy. Mutton biryani was fine. Good ambience. Raja's service was good and responsive

The restaurant specialises in Chettinad cuisine. The restaurant is totally redone and gone are the dark interiors.

The food is tasty and portion sizes commensurate with price. The malabar parotta, chapattis and vazhappoo vadai were served hot with paneer chettinad masala.

The tables are spaced apart, aircon just right and service quick.

Fabulous Sunday meal with an amazing variety of food for both vegetarians & meat folks. Teja was very warm and served us well throughout our meals.
Highly Recommended!

First...
The positive things...
Its recently renovated....interior looks good with vintage touch...
Service is good...
Restrooms are clean ...

The slightly neutral or negative things...
The mutton biriyani is above average taste only...nothing to rave...
But for the price point the mutton pieces are tender...and more pieces ....available...

Its for those who look for good ambience...but doesn't care much about the taste...can visit...

Final...food taste is ABOVE AVERAGE...don't have high expectations..

Yummy food! Nice service - thanks to Teja and team! Great meals - veg and non veg. The biriyani virunthu was great! The complimentary starter rasam was fun!
