Insider Tips

  • The name derives from a seven-fold spectrum of visible light, flooding in abundantly through large windows overlooking the Bay of Bengal. It is embodied in spirit by the dedicated cuisine stations. I counted Italian/European, Grill, Cold cuts, North and South Indian, Thai, Japanese, dim sum and dessert
  • My favourite station was Thai, (wo)manned by a cheerful Chef Lilly; seated with a bowl of jasmine rice, Northern Thai pork curry topped with some piping hot Thai fried chicken, I nearly forget about the assortment grilled lobsters, smoked salmon and nigiris at my disposal. Leela has a fantastic Pastry Chef Bhaskar Adeeb; save space for desserts and bakes
  • Spectra is the hotel's busiest restaurant and sea view tables sell out a few days in advance over weekends. For tranquillity, book one of the tables facing the Adayar river in the corner

Critic Rating

Amit Speaks Writer & Journalist

Buffets at multi-cuisine eateries in premium hotels usually fall into two categories: First, cut and dried amenity meals which, unless tacked with a discount, no one really likes to pay for. Then there are glorified brunches where they throw in tapas, grills and a few namesake live counters in addition to the standard fillers and alcohol, at a price that induces euphoria associated with gluttony and meal deals. Spectra breaks this trend, decidedly and with great distinction. Chef Dharmen Makwana does serve a huge variety of food, more than anyone else in its category, but all of it is quite good!

Average food and unprofessional service

Spectra is the European restaurant at Leela Palace. The restaurant is very large but not very nice or cozy in any way. The staff is very very nice but not very professional and the food served is very average.

Restaurant with nice view and yummy food

I picked up this restaurant for a lunch meeting with a friend, as I was very impresssed by the spectra in Gurgaon leela. The place did not disappoint me either. Food selection is huge, with separate sections for indian, Italian, Japanese and so on. Staff is outstanding and ready to serve, explain any question you may have. Even though our objective was to catch up and have a conversation, we still preferred the buffet, as the selection was too good. Interesting part is that I never visited this place, when we lived in chennai, since I was too fond of Park Sheraton restaurants. I would anyway pickup this place for excellent food, ambience, service and the experience.

Repetitively good dining location at excellent service

One of three restaurants in Leela Palace Hotel Chennai. Spectra is a very good multi-cuisine dining location. Food selection varied and is very delicious. Highlight of the week is the large Buffet provided Wednesdays and Fridays. Also here an impressing variety, one week seafood, next meditarian, next Burgers etc... Excellent service, good staff!
