INSIDER TIPS

  • My favourite of Setz's many kitchens is the Thai, run by a chef from Bangkok’s Peninsula. Ask her to do off-menu dishes and you will be surprised by her range
  • There is now a Set’z bar near the entrance and a lovely outdoor seating area which is only open in good weather
  • Set’z has long been famous for its desserts and ice-creams. Try its version of the classic Napoleon pastry made a’ la minute. Brilliant! Or the Caramel-Walnut ice-cream

Vir's Verdict

26 /30

Possibly one of the most influential restaurants to open in Delhi in this decade, Set’z offers five-star quality service and food in glamorous surroundings on top of the upmarket Emporio mall. Ever since It opened, it has demonstrated that standalones could take on the deluxe hotels and win without charging five star prices. Designed by Tokyo’s Super Potato group, this is a large good-looking restaurant with seven different kitchens all turning out different cuisines ranging from Oriental (Japanese, Thai and Chinese) to Indian (both North Indian and coastal cuisine) and good European. There’s a lunch buffet but dinner, when the restaurant heaves with trendies, is the time to go.

buying the experience
extremely expensive. But then that's the kind of luxury you pay for and you pretty much know they will strip you of your last penny. The attention to detail is unbelievable; you can sit there and think all day about how they are so perfect in execution, the food quality again is 100 percent. The food presentation, the crowd, atmosphere, service and everything is world class.E

Needs to improve significantly
We booked a table for 4 on a Saturday night but were very disappointed. At the restaurant, when seated, no one came to serve for a long time. When we requested for assistance someone rushed to our table. We were in the process of ordering our drinks and appetisers that some other hostess comes to ask if she can take away the menu cards as some other table requires it! No curtsey of any sort! The snacks were average but what surprised was lack of options in the drinks menu. While the menu stated 2-3 beers on tap, none were available. Choice of bottled beer was also limited. One can expect such circumstances in B grade locations but not in the flagship restaurant of the only luxury mall in North India. We decided to leave after the appetisers.

Over priced, over hyped, over rated!
Went for lunch, buffet is nothing great and over priced for the food on offer, too many cooks doing their own thing and not very responsive.Decor is good, however the food is not what it used to be, seems they have trimmed down the chef's and sent some back, now you have middle level fellows cooking. Portions as far as the buffet is concerned is pathetic, food is in small vessels and you wonder if this is reheated from last night. Nothing great as far as taste is concerned either.Wine is the usual stuff served in other restaurants too, with a few exceptions that will cost you a bomb with taxes that add up to another 40%. Kitty party types and ladies who's husbands have given them the extra moolah to get off their backs . They will all pay in cash!!These are the women you will normally see on any afternoon, chatting away with city gossip ! All counters were not really open and the dessert spread has just one Indian item. Not a place if you like good food compared to what other places have on offer . The place runs on past reputation and is frequented by those who want to show off. As far as I am concerned very, very, disappointing!

Expensive, but good food and ambiance
Visited again for dinner. Choice of mocktails was good. Alcohol, particularly wine is very expensive ( more than the food bill !!) Good menu selection Would visit again

About SET'Z

SET’ Z located in emporio at vasant kunj is a fine dining establishment which reeks class. Very swish and upmarket, its location alone can guarantee its success. The interiors are done in brown tones running from the ceiling to the floor. The ceiling is my favourite part. It’s a trellis of wood running from one end to the other. The furniture is sleek and edgy. Food stations are set up on the benches on the side of the restaurant for buffets. Evening is the best time to visit the place when it is trending with upper class. The outdoor sitting area is the best part of the restaurant. Intimate and romantic it seems like touching the sky. Each table is lit by lanterns throwing a golden glow around. The staff is as polished and attentive as they are supposed to be.

The restaurant is good at what it does and that’s serving multi cuisine. The menu brags Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Indian and European. The soups and salads are made using only the freshest of ingredients. The soups have oriental, Italian and indian influence. Hints of chilli oil, kaffir lime and basil running through the aromatic broth. Fresh rocket leaves mixed with goat cheese and dressed with sweet balsamic vinegar are so fantastic that it is unbelievable. Chinese appetizers and dimsums have found a place in the menu too. The Chinese speciality peking duck braised in plum juice is offered and eaten with great enjoyment. Kebab and mezze platter which signifies northern india can be shared around the table.

While you are happily appreciating the first course the chefs in the kitchen are creating the masterpieces of the mains. Dishes from every country could be found here. I am not kidding You can ask the chef to prepare you something off menu and you will be delighted by the selection. Wok will turn just plucked basil, ginger, chilli, lemongrass into food of gods. Steamed seabass fillet with ginger is one such example. The European section has recently caught seafood and lamb chops done is most beautiful pink way. Thai curries are aromatic and also therapeutic. Mutton simmered in coconut milk is the indian way to go. Divine! For your sweet delight mister, house makes homemade gelato in various flavours. Parsi kulfi for you if you are in mood for exotic spices. Over all the place is expensive but a haven for gastro-fanatics.
