19 Mar, 2019 by Madhushree Basu RoyIt is the fifth edition of this gastronomic food festival Gout de/ Good France, and, The Consulate General of France in Kolkata is organising this fabulous event with ten of the city’s finest hotels and restaurants from the 17th March until the 21st of March 2019.
The highlight of Good France this year is a curated menu celebrating the ‘Provence’ region while focusing on sustainability. French food requires a lot of French ingredients. However, this year, hotels are using a lot of local produce as well as some kind of local touch to their gourmet dishes. For the last four years, we have always seen only seen the restaurants from the five star hotels participating in Good France in Kolkata. For the first time, there is a standalone restaurant, To Die For, also participating in the event. The catchy part is that they are ‘vegetarian only’ fine dining speciality restaurant.

Other than the above, another key highlight is the winner of Young Chef Olympiad, Chef Cyrene Randriannasolo and Mme Magdala Caussimon from France conducted a workshop on the 17th at the press interaction and tasting session, where they created an entrée of Salmon and quinoa and very eclectic chocolate and mandarin dessert. They will be hosted by IBIS Kolkata.

- French Onion Soup with a unique Onion Batter Jalebi crumbled into it from The Park, Kolkata

- Grilled Prawns with Carrot and Ginger Puree with Caviar from Taj Bengal, Kolkata
- Seared Tuna from Hyatt Regency, Kolkata
- Fillets De Bhetki Sur Un Lit De Lentilles Du Puy, Fondant De Pomme De Terre, Puree De Courges from The Lalit Great Eastern Kolkata
Things that you may never get the opportunity to try being in Kolkata, like a Foie Gras or Caviar or some Pumpkin and Brie Rolled Saffron Cakes and the like, this is your window of opportunity to explore the best of Provencal dinner at these speciality restaurants.
The desserts range from classics to very contemporary with multiple elements in one. Classic Opera Cake, Provencal King Cake, Tarte Tropezienne, Mix Berry Crème Brulee, Meringues Aux Agrumes with Cardamom Ice Cream, Pouding Au Chocolat and Crème Anglaise are some of the highlights from the various restaurants.
If you are looking to brighten your weekday dinner, go ahead and book yourself a place at any of these restaurants. It is there only until the 21st of March 2019 and in case you miss it, you will have to wait for another year before you can try out the best of French gastronomy in Kolkata.
