Ohri’s Tansen is all about grandeur. The restaurant has been designed to look like a royal court and you feel that you are transported in time. An alley with huge pillars on both sides leads you to the seating area. There is a designated place for the musicians who sing live ghazals in the evening. The waiters are also dressed like khansamas of yesteryears. My multiple visits to this place have resulted in identifying some clear favourites from the menu which has Mughlai as well as Hyderabadi dishes. 'Marag' the yoghurt based Hyderabadi lamb soup is the ideal way to start the meal here. 'Paneer Dum Roll' with shallow-fried rolled paneer stuffed with veggies and cheese is definitely a vegetarian’s delight. Another popular item on the menu is 'Dahi Ke Kabab' prepared from hung curd. The methi and onion based 'Baghmati Murgh' goes well with the assorted varieties of bread from 'Roti ki Tokri'. This is one of the few places in Hyderabad where you get the local dessert 'Jauzi Halwa'.
Hyderabadi nawabs were the blue-blooded aristocrats known for their grand lifestyle and taste for finer things in life. They were known as hardcore gourmets who respected the art of gastronomy by appreciating the skills of their royal cooks and celebrating great recipes by using only the finest of ingredients. Chefs of today are struggling to replicate the same recipes so diners can glimpse the culinary opulence of Hyderabadi nawabs through them, which is why a trip to Ohris Tansen in Hyderabad is a must. The restaurant was created originally for the sole purpose of reinventing the past and does that even today successfully by presenting a nostalgic ambience, paving way for multiple outlets of Ohris Tansen all over Hyderabad city. Its located at Ohris Jalavihar, Necklace Road.
Chefs work relentlessly to create a menu that does full justice to royalty of Hyderabad. The menu, which is a delicious amalgamation of authentic Mughlai and Hyderabadi dishes, transports you into time with each morsel. Ohris Tansens menu is all about grandeur and that reflects through their menu. Recipes that were lost in time finds a place on the restaurants menu. Pick a drink off their bar menu before tucking into an array of appetizers such as, Rampur ka pyaazi kebab, dum machhi patrawali, shikampur kebab, zimikand ki gilawat, tala hua gosht, raan-e-sikandari and dahi ke kebab. Help yourself to a basket of assorted flatbreads to mop up the curries. Dont miss onto, kacche gosht ki kofta curry, paneer laqa, saoji gosht, chowgra, ambrosia murgh and dakhni saag motia.
No Hyderabadi menu is complete without a section dedicated to biryani. Ohris Tansen then wraps up this luxurious menu with a plethora of desserts fit for kings. Indulge the sugarholic in you with, qubani-ka-meetha, basundi, Ohris special jauzi halwa, baked gulab jamun, Mulayam rasmalai and motichoor & rabri parfait. Servers are dressed as khansamas of yesteryears. Hyderabadi nawabs were connoisseurs of music and continuing with the trend, the restaurant organizes live ghazal performances in the evening. Interiors replicate Hyderabadi royal court through gorgeous traditional architecture, pure white dcor with gold trims, lovely ambient lighting and view of the lush landscape. Dcor is upscale, elegant and tasteful. Prices are reasonable.
