India's most influential Chinese restaurant. Until the Golden Dragon opened in 1974, nobody had realised that Chinese food could be spicy. The Dragon introduced Indians to the fiery food of Sichuan and transformed Chinese cuisine in the sub-continent forever. These days the Dragon is a smart, expensive hotel-type restaurant serving food from all over China and Hong Kong. It has a dedicated clientele of South Bombay regulars who have been going there since they were children and is very much the favourite Chinese restaurant of the establishment.
Been here several times since childhood. This time the person serving us gave some facts about the restaurant I was not aware of. This is the first chinese resturant in Mumbai, been running for 40 years. The food, service and decor get a 10 on 10.
This is an iconic chinese restaurant, within the beautiful Taj Mahal Hotel.Though this is a little unsung, as compared to other chinese restaurants in the city, it holds its own, with a variety of dishes on offer, both for vegetarians, and non vegetarinas alike. This could be partly due to its location on the ground floor, that, one is not able to get a majestic view of the sea. However the cuisine, and the ever attentive TAJ service more than make up for the same.Worth the visit.
We had a party of 12 friends at Golden Dragon- and it was amazing! Good food - starters ( Onion Pancake, crispy spinach, Lotus stem)and the main courses( Woh Thib, Noodles, Fried Rice)and the desserts- Daar Saan- All delicious!! And super service!!
Went here for dinner tonight. Staying at the hotel and lazy to go outside for dinner. Nice restaurant, with good menu for vegetarian and non vegetarian. We chose soup to start and a prawn dish and sweet and sour pork for mains, which we shared between us. Very filling and delicious. Good ambiance and very polite staff. Highly recommend.
We were staying at the Taj Palace for three nights and inevitably found ourselves sampling this restaurant. We were not disappointed. Great ambience, great food and impeccable service. The twice-cooked lamb dish was "to die for"!
The story of India’s love for Chinese cuisine has been going around for ages. It first started when Chinese refugees bought with themselves their culinary heritage several decades ago and since then the cuisine has been adapted as our own, but a tad more spicier. There are as many Chinese restaurants in every city of India as North Indian restaurants, such is the popularity of this cuisine. Similar is the case with Mumbai where there are great Chinese places dotted all over the city. For fine and the fancy Mumbaikers prefer to dine at The Taj Mahal Palace Hotel’s swanky Chinese restaurant ‘Golden Dragon’. When the special occasion calls for it, this is where foodies turn to for authentic traditional Sichuan fare. Golden Dragon is a superb addition to Colaba’s gastro scene.
Golden Dragon is renowned for serving stereotypical Chinese food, made authentically by a team of brilliant expat chefs. The menu trots all over China, adapting dishes from different regions to include diversity. Take delight in tremendous seafood fare on the menu especially dishes like Singaporean Chilli Crab and an array of delectable dim sums, made perfectly by an expat chef. Dining at Golden Dragon is an expensive affair, watch out for that. First course entails, steamed chicken siu mai, crackling pork, song of the dragon chicken, Sichuan chili baby corn, spicy lemon coriander soup, soft shell crab pepper salt, stuffed shitake in five spice chili honey sauce and sliced fish roasted chili wild pepper. Enjoy the main course of stir-fried five treasure vegetables, crispy aromatic duck, mapo tofu, lobster butter chili oyster, eggplant in spicy tobaijan sauce and stone wok cooked Mongolian lamb.
The menu is wonderfully extensive and liberally sprinkled with various mouth-watering Chinese delights. Match your meal with Golden Dragon’s gourmet tea. They keep some amazing oriental blends assured to increase the flavour of your meal. For dessert you can indulge in some exotic sweets such as, chilled mango pudding, batter fried milk cake, darsaan, chilled rambutan, flambéed bitter chocolate & candied ginger dim sum and sesame walnut toffee. The interiors of Golden Dragon are epitome of luxury itself. Honey toned furnishings works beautifully against the arched white walls. The sprawling dining room is designed to reflect luxury, class and affluence. The look is modern and breathtakingly stunning, just perfect for a five star property.
