This all-vegetarian restaurant at the Sofitel has been packing them in almost from the time it opened. The cuisine is supposed to be Western Indian (i.e. Gujarati-Marwari) but this is, in effect, a Marwari restaurant with a chef from Rajasthan with very little in the way of genuine Gujarati food. Not that this matters too much. The Gujaratis come anyway, drawn by the attraction of eating paneer and mushrooms (both ingredients largely unknown in Western India) in five-star surroundings, secure in the knowledge that the kitchen is all-vegetarian, and that nothing non-vegetarian has ‘contaminated’ their food.
