Life can be strange. Many years ago, Vineet Bhatia was the Chef at Kandahar, the Oberoi's Indian restaurant. Then he went abroad and won two Michelin stars (in London and Geneve). When it was time for the Oberoi to close Kandahar and re-invent its Indian restaurant, it turned to Vineet. He is now back in the same space but not as just an outlet chef but as the superstar-chef serving a signature menu. The restaurant has taken a little time to settle down because Mumbai needed to come to terms with Vineet's innovations and he needed to find the right balance between tradition and originality. But now, Ziya has found its equilibrium and packs in South Mumbai diners and hotel guests alike.
We had a dinner as a group of 20 people from overseas and the restaurant behaved against any customer service principles. They didn’t give us a choice for a la carte dining but rather offered a menu with already high price of 4000 rupees per person before tax. And after we were done with the dinner (not before!!!) in 2 hours they “nicely” announced, as several people couldn’t join, they up-charged each person by 20%. All in all, I ended up paying 5900 rupees with tax. On the food side: it was average, nothing remarkable at all, lamb and chicken curry you can expect from any respected place in the city. Zero customer care from Ziya restaurant, stay away from the place. I will never return.
Ziya is a world class restaurant. We are there three times during our most recent stay. We also dined there during our previous stays in Mumbai. Great food, excellent service and an outstanding wine list. We ordered the tasting menu one night (A+) and ordered a la carte the other two times we ate there (also A+). We highly recommend Ziya. You should make a reservation in advance.
The food, the portions, the service, everything was a complete disappointment. We asked for a table near the window, which was politely suggested for lunch the next day (seriously!) despite it being vacated in time for us to shift there.
Amazing food and great ambience. The staff are very helpful and because all dishes on the menu look special, they help you select for a gastronomic experience.
The restaurant is within the legendary Oberoi hotel. The food and service was good. The staff was super nice and the view of this restaurant was breathtaking. Thanks Namit for the experience.
Ziya is a well known restaurant located in the Oberoi hotel, Mumbai. The restaurant serves North Indian delicacies. You can drop in here to have a nice lunch or dinner as per your wish. You can have a nice meal and have a wonderful view of the Queen’s Necklace. The place is ideal for people of all ages. Therefore, you can come here with friends as well as family. The ambience of Ziya Restaurant is simply amazing. The most significant aspect of this restaurant is that wherever you sit you get a fantastic view.Nevertheless most of the dishes are too highly priced and restaurant bill can actually burn a whole in your pocket. Wine and cocktails are very nice but again you have to spend a fortune to enjoy them. The wooden flooring adds a regal touch to place and wooden inlay work looks quite impressive it is an air-conditioned restaurant and offers facility of valet parking. It is open from 12 noon to 11.30 PM. Sunday brunch is actually recommended.
The restaurant staff is very courteous and polite. They even take time to explain what dishes they are serving you so as far as service is concerned it is simply impeccable. Both hot and cold towel are served to the guests. You get one of the finest butter chickens in the city here. You can actually see the chefs working behind the glass enclosure. The food is fresh and it is advisable that you get prior booking done so as to avoid any kind of problem later on. The gold hued plates enhance the fine dining experience which you get here.
The service is nice and quick. Portion size which is served here is not too big. The mood is not too lively rather there is a touch of sophistication and calmness. An evening in Ziya Restaurant leaves you with a very dignified and royal feel.
