You would expect a restaurant called Carmine to be awash with vivid splashes of crimson. But this place has a rather straightforward 24-hour-café setting with the only allusion to its name being the comfy, bright red chairs. The menu features quite an array of Indian, Continental and Oriental dishes – from dal maharani (which is a fiery, carom seed-tempered, mint-flavoured black and yellow lentil concoction speckled with fox nut) to creamy Norwegian smoked salmon, there is something for everybody. The only snag is that the food falls a little short of originality – a bit of innovation would go a long way in setting this place apart from other five-star restaurants.
