  • Oddly enough, the restaurant Larry's China most resembles is not the House of Ming but an outpost of the Mainland China chain which also has its roots in the Taj tradition

This restaurant's claim to fame when it opened in the 90s was that it offered the same sort of food as the House of Ming, cooked by the same sort of Taj chefs, at half the price of its more famous sibling. As Khan Market next door has exploded with Far-Eastern eating options, Larry's China has searched for a new raison d'etre beyond cheap Sichuan. Corporate chef Ananda Solomon has pepped up the menu to make it seem more contemporary, but this is still very much a 1990s-style hotel Chinese restaurant.

The idea after Larry’s China was to give to the diners the pleasure of dining on traditional recipes of House of Ming but for much more affordable prices. Chef Ananda Solomon has crafted a menu that fills you with anticipation and when the food reaches your table sends you into a delicious swoon. Start wading through their vast menu with some appetizers. They do a wonderful selection of, corn kernel pepper salt, chicken pentagon, crispy potatoes with roasted chillies, drunken lobster, drums of heaven, crispy konjee black mushrooms, Larry’s tiger sesame prawns and chicken & spring onion dim sum. Let Larry’s China further woo you with mains like, lobster ginger chilli wine with spring onion, sweet & sour pork, egg plant in hot bean sauce, sliced duck with plum sauce, sweet chilli steamed tofu with asparagus and stir fried prawns Singapore style.
