We have seen many culinary brands grow and flourish in the past decade, almost multiplying in their popularity. Take ‘Mainland China’ for example. What started as a solo establishment in Kamala Mills, Mumbai in early 90’s has now spread all over India, boasting close to hundred outlets stretched across several metropolitan cities. Mumbai itself has over ten outlets, all equally amazing and equally sought after. Try the one on the third floor of Infiniti Mall at Malad West, a popular busy establishment crawling with Chinese food lovers. The brand is one of the quickest to grow and has become synonymous with Chinese cuisine in Mumbai or any given city. The traditional modern vibe of the place with steaming bowls of authentic Chinese food is a pleasing sight that attracts many diners on regular basis.
The idea behind Mainland China was to give gourmets a chance to enjoy five-star quality Chinese for more pocket-friendly prices. Food is high quality and authentically prepared and is also light on pockets, which makes Mainland China a popular name. They deliver home too, a blessing on days you don’t want to bother dining out. First, pick a boozy drink. Sangrias, mojitos, LIITs, martinis, all are yum but you could go with scotches and beers too if you like. Those driving can sip their delightful mocktails. Jains get a separate menu. One can make their first course entirely of dim sums or go with something conventional. Variety is exhaustive. Second course entails, exotic vegetables in smoked chilli sauce, steamed freshwater bhakti in Chinese parsley, general Tso’s chicken, vegetable dumplings in chilli soya, burnt garlic fish with seasonal greens and Thai chilli lamb with kaffir lime.
Main course is best enjoyed with a bowl of fried rice or pan-fried noodles. There is plenty to choose from. Coddle your sweet tooth with some of Mainland China’s exotic Asian desserts. Mango pudding, steamed coconut dumplings with honey butter sauce, coconut caramel custard, hot chocolate rolls with vanilla ice cream, palm jaggery ice cream, honey noodles & almond flakes and chocolate dome with warm chocolate sauce, all present a tempting array. Interiors of this Mainland China outlet is fancier than other branches. Dining room is high-ceilinged and quite spacious and is done in modern oriental way. Ask to be seated under the moon gates row, they are the best seats in the house.
