Waarsa

Waarsa is a restaurant in Nariman Point, Mumbai serving North Indian, biryani and Awadhi. Known for North Indian dishes; ideal for family meals and group outings.

I recently visited Waarsa to experience their winter special menu, Awadhi Winters, and it turned out to be a truly memorable meal.
I began with the Rassa — a tomato and pineapple soup that was refreshingly tangy and beautifully balanced. For small plates, the Murgh Hara Pyaaz stood out with its tender chicken and flavourful preparation, perfectly paired with paratha. I also tried their seafood platter featuring Achari Pasanda Rawas (salmon fish) and juicy prawns, both cooked really well and packed with flavour.
The main course was the highlight — the Namak Mandi chicken and mutton Namak Mandi, both mandi-style preparations cooked with aromatic spices that were rich yet comforting. Being winter, the meal felt incomplete without the Sarson Ka Saag and Makke Ki Roti, which was truly the star of the table. I would honestly come back just for this dish — it was outstanding.
For dessert, I tried the sitaphal ice cream along with black gajar halwa
The ambience is absolutely lovely — an eclectic charm with a subtle touch of royalty. Muted tones, thoughtfully placed accent furniture, and beautiful artwork on the walls create a warm yet elegant space. The service was impeccable, making the experience even better.
Waarsa also offers an extensive regular menu with excellent vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, and I love that they keep introducing special menus based on the season and occasion.
All in all, it was a beautiful dining experience. Highly recommended.
PS-A word of mention for our server,Jackson. His reccos were on point and his service was exemplary.

Outstanding dining experience at WaarSa. The food was absolutely exceptional rich, beautifully balanced flavors that make it some of the best Indian cuisine we’ve had in a long time. The ambiance is elegant and warm, creating the perfect setting for a relaxed meal. What truly stands out is the hospitality ,attentive, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. A place we’ll definitely return to.

I recently dined at Waarsa at NCPA, Mumbai, and it turned out to be a truly memorable experience. The location itself adds to the charm. Being situated within the National Centre for the Performing Arts gives the restaurant a refined and cultural ambience. It is the kind of place where you can enjoy a leisurely meal before or after a performance, or simply visit for a relaxed evening overlooking the sea.

The atmosphere at Waarsa strikes a perfect balance between elegance and comfort. The décor reflects a classic North Indian influence with warm lighting, tasteful interiors, and attentive service that makes you feel welcomed from the moment you walk in. The staff were courteous, knowledgeable about the menu, and happy to make recommendations, which added to the overall experience.

We started with their Lamb Rogan Josh, and it was undoubtedly one of the highlights of the evening. The lamb was cooked to perfection – tender, juicy, and full of flavour. The gravy had a deep, rich colour with a beautiful blend of spices that were aromatic without being overpowering. You could taste the slow-cooked depth in every bite. It paired wonderfully with the assortment of naan breads we ordered.

Speaking of naan, the variety was impressive. We tried different naan breads, each with its own character. The butter naan was soft, fluffy, and lightly crisp on the edges, making it ideal for scooping up the Rogan Josh gravy. The garlic naan had just the right level of garlic flavour, not too strong, but enough to enhance the meal beautifully. The cheese naan was indulgent and satisfying, with a generous filling that melted perfectly. Each naan was freshly prepared and served hot, which made a noticeable difference.

For the vegetarian option, we ordered Paneer Lababdar, and it certainly did not disappoint. The paneer was soft and fresh, and the gravy was creamy, mildly sweet, and well balanced with spices. It had a smooth texture and a comforting richness without feeling too heavy. Even those at the table who generally prefer non-vegetarian dishes were impressed by how flavourful and satisfying it was. It paired equally well with both naan and rice.

To end the meal, we had kulfi, which was the perfect finale. The kulfi was dense, creamy, and authentically prepared. It had that traditional texture and flavour that instantly takes you back to classic Indian desserts. Not overly sweet, it was refreshing and a lovely contrast after the rich curries. I would highly recommend saving space for it.

Overall, Waarsa at NCPA offers not just a meal, but a complete dining experience. The quality of ingredients, authenticity of flavours, and attention to detail in preparation are evident in every dish. Combined with its beautiful location and warm hospitality, it makes for a restaurant that I would gladly revisit and recommend to others. If you enjoy well-prepared North Indian cuisine in an elegant setting, Waarsa is definitely worth a visit.

I visited Waarsa after seeing a few reels about their Biryani Festival, but honestly, it didn’t quite live up to the hype. I tried the Islampuri Chaap Biryani — the mutton was well-cooked and flavourful, inspired by Bengal-style biryani. Interestingly, they used sweet potato instead of the usual potato, and the classic boiled egg was missing. The mutton portion was generous, but the rice quantity was just enough for one person. To be fair, the staff was kind enough to offer an extra bowl of rice for my friend.

I also tried the Tangdi Kebab, which was soft, juicy, and nicely done — not extraordinary, but definitely enjoyable. The Mutton Galouti Kebab was the real winner — absolutely delicious. The Dal Makhani was standard, like what you’d get at most restaurants.

Maybe I went in with high expectations after seeing all the hype online, but overall, I’d say it’s a decent experience made better by their warm, courteous staff and good service.

It's difficult to find good North Indian delicacies in Mumbai. Waarsa definitely helps bridge the gap. The atmosphere and the food is equally soothing.

For starters we had,
Rajma Chukander ki Galouti: 4/5
Kairi Shakarandi ka Tikka: 4/5

In mocktails,
Divine Passion: 4/5
Zero Proof Americano: 6/5

For mains,
Kache Kale ke kofte: 5/5
The gravy is velvety!!
Taftan: 3/5

All and all, an experience worth reliving.

Most amazing service. Chef cooking style and process remains from his lineage from over 100 years.
Will come back and am already recommending this place.

Waarsa at NCPA, Nariman Point, is a gem serving authentic Awadhi cuisine.

The food is flavorful yet light, with dishes like Raan-e-Mukhtar (slow-cooked goat leg) and Zafrani Lagaan Murgh stealing the show.

Vegetarian options like Bhindi Kali Mirch and Lauki aur Chana Dal Shikhampuri are equally delightful.

The Kesar Phirni was the highlight—creamy, aromatic, and perfectly sweet.

Their cocktails, like The Emperor’s Rose and Gin Gilori, are creative and pair well with the meal.

The ambiance is stunning, with salmon-hued walls, intricate ceilings, and elegant decor, creating a warm, royal vibe.

Service is top-notch, attentive, and friendly, making the experience special. Chefs Rahul Akerkar and Mukhtar Qureshi, culinary geniuses, craft a menu blending royal and home-style Awadhi flavors.

Owned by Aditya Birla New Age Hospitality, Waarsa is a must-visit for food lovers seeking an unforgettable dining experience in Mumbai.

Cocktails:

Emperor Rose: A refreshing, floral drink. Gin Gilori: A gin-based cocktail with delicate flavors. Court Jester: Gin with pickled Bhavnagri chili, jasmine, and mint. Despite some inconsistency in early reviews, the drinks complement the cuisine beautifully.

Popular Dishes:Non-vegetarian: Raan-e-Mukhtar, Zafrani Lagaan Murgh, Murgh Gilafi Seekh Kebab, Rampuri Kacche Gosht ki Tikki.

Vegetarian: Bhindi Kali Mirchi, Lauki aur Chana Dal Shikhampuri, Awadhi Tawa Paneer Pasanda, Kasundi Baingan Tikka.

Desserts: Kesar Phirni, Angoori Rabdi. Others: Chilgoza Shorba, Gucchi Biryani, Daal Q-Man.

Must try place.

I'm saying this again and again everywhere but it's true.

I normally don't trust any attendant's recommendations. because normally they don't know what they recommend or they just mention the best sellers.

But Shankara in Waarsa, is such a pro when it comes to the food served in Waarsa. I would trust him blindly.

The food is out of the world! After hunting for for some Good awadhi food and I think we did finally. Waarsa is the final destination when it comes to Awadhi food.

The chef's hands should be kissed. Its a place that understands flavours, textures, cooking time, aroma, everything!

It's like an orchestra of aromas and taste that plays as soon as the food is places on the table.

The staff is super fun as well.

This is going to be a monthly spot for me now.

A MUST VISIT.. Do ask for Shankar.
