After a revamp in 2015, Prego, now helmed by Chef Luca D’Amora, is in serious contention for the title of finest Italian restaurant in Chennai. The menu is pithy and you would not go wrong with live-rolled Pastas or the silken Lasagna. The slow braised pork belly, a rarity on the Chennai’s Italian menus, fabulously trumps over some of the best in the city. The Italian Chef’s deconstructed tiramisu might be Prego’s best kept secret, because for a dessert that is de rigueur at any Italian restaurant, this one will leave you with fond memories. Luca swaps boozy lady finger biscuits with an airy chocolate sponge cake soaked in Limoncello, and gets around the heavy mascarpone by using a foam gun. If nothing else, go to Prego just for this edgy take on a classic.
Had been to Prego last night with family. I had made a reservation for 8.30 pm. Restaurant is located a floor below the lobby. We were immediately seated at a convenient place and attended well by the staff. Pros: Attentive Staff Comfortable ambience Authentic Italian taste Excellent bread varieties Ample choices for vegetarian Loved their crepes and calzone Free dessert (Tiramisu) from the Chef :-) :-) Cons: Small portions for the price Salad in particular had very small portion for the price Drinking water quality not great
Great service, great wine and food. Must visit for all foodies. They went out of their way to arrange for a sugar free dessert from the restaurant upstairs.
was there for a breakfast. too many choices for vegetarian. from south indian to paranthas with subzi to noodles to vegetables. fruit platter was mostly indian fruits. good choice of cheese and crackers. live station was ok
After visiting Taj and a lovely stay the Prego was a disaster except for the deserts ,it was highly unexpected from this prestigious restaurant at least something should have had the taste of authenticity and definitely keeping in mind that italian food is cheesy and no cheese or scarcely any cheese or not in apt quantity required. The chefs should keep a vigil and not let such omissions occur.A real waste of dinner and humilation faced in front of my guests as i had suggested the place.
the rstaurant had a homely feel with good furniture. the chef personally comes to table and recommends dishes. the pizza was good and the raspberry sorbet was nice. the pasta was decent the. the only flaw that they had only one working staff.
Italian food has gone through a major overhaul in the past few years in Chennai, since the locals have developed a more refined taste for the cuisine. You can assume the popularity, by the way the pastas are flying off the shelves in supermarkets and people have adapted the olive oils in their daily diet. Diners have given pizzas and pastas a skip and have started indulging in the more unconventional Italian fare. But if you ask what bought on the change? Then we would say the arrival of handful of authentic Italian restaurants in the city’s gastronomy palette. Counted amongst the best brands for genuine Italian food is ‘Prego’, a fancy fine dining establishment excelling in spectacular Italian menu. After going through a facelift in 2015, the restaurant has let Chef Luca D’Amora take the charge. And under his guidance the place has done a complete round-about.
Prego located at Taj Coromandel Hotel is one of the classiest establishments in the city. Its menu alone is enough to draw patrons in but the décor plays a huge part in the lure. The restaurant is made in a very sophisticated way so a diner feels overwhelmed by its grandeur. Aesthetics are kept modern and stylish, to meet the contemporary ideas of the diners. Patrons come in hordes to experience the elegance of the restaurant. Pale beige chairs and a softly painted room accentuates the class of the restaurant. The only other colours you see, comes from the lovely paintings hanging on the wall. A private dining area is created separately for those who would like some privacy with their dinner companions. Everything is quite posh and classy looking. If you want to wine and dine someone to impress then you couldn’t pick better than Prego.
Chef Luca D’Amora presents an authentic Italian menu which comes from their extraordinary selection of wines. Their wine library has one of the best wine selections in Chennai. The menu is sensational and you will be taken for a joyride of flavours. You can start on the food journey with some appetizers like, carpaccio di bufala, polenta ai funghi, minestrone casalingo, asparagi al vapore, tonno confettato piccante con cous cous and focaccia al proschutto e fichi. Take the matters further with delicacies like, paccheri alla norma, tagliolini di mare, involtini alla barese, fettuccine al ragu and rigatoni amatriciana. Bring this memorable meal to an end with classic Italian desserts.
