About Connaught Place (CP), Central Delhi, Delhi NCR
Connaught Place is the heart of Delhi pulsating with history, power, culture and life. This complex node of historical buildings and patches of dense green foliage today, used to be a ridge covered with kikar trees and housed by jackals. Residents of Kashmere Gate and Civil Lines visited during the weekends for partridge hunting. This area was later developed by the government as a central business district and was named after Prince Arthur, 1st Duke of Connaught. Development of Connaught Place fell upon the shoulders of W.H Nicholls, the chief architect to the Government of India, but later the work was given to Robert Tor Russel who went on to design the complex as it is today. With time Connaught Place grew in shape and size welcoming the first cinema, restaurants and posh homeowners in its fold.
