This snug, unassuming little café tucked away in a quiet lane in Aundh is a slice of South Korea right here in Pune. Run by a sweet Korean couple Changsoo and Mikyoung Kim, Café Maroo dishes out homely, traditional Korean delicacies – possibly the most authentic preparations available in this cuisine in the city. Start off with the janchi guksu – a clear seaweed broth with beef shreds, a heap of wheat noodles, veggies such as radishes, green onions, and pumpkins, and garnished with a fried egg. Pork lovers can move on to a plate of the gochujang yangnyeom gui – the Korean take on grilled pork comprising succulent meat slathered with a piquant, nutty, slightly tangy Gochujang paste. Or some squid bulgogi with steamed rice, with a side of kimchi should also suffice.
