Adding a dash of Bollywood masala to Pune’s culinary scene is the Mugshot Café, owned by Priyanka Chopra’s brother Siddharth Chopra. A large wooden door on the third floor of Jewel Square beckons people meandering around the mall. Once you enter, it is a straightforward affair with black leather couches and red brick walls holding vintage guns and poster frames of classic crime dramas like Casablanca, possibly as a doff to the establishment’s name. My picks from the menu would be the gulabi jhinga – rose petal and pomegranate-infused tandoor prawns – the chicken kabab with creamy fontina melts and mint dust, panzerotti (mini calzones) stuffed with buffalo mozzarella, vegetables and red pepper pesto, and the crispy-skin snapper with parmesan shavings and spinach tossed in a light beetroot sabayon and drizzled with vanilla bean oil.
